Each category of residence permit has a specific duration:

  • Work and study residence permits are initially issued for 6-12 months.

The application review fee for obtaining a permit depends on the processing speed:

  • Temporary Residence Permits:

    • 30-day processing: 300 GEL
    • 20-day processing: 450 GEL
    • 10-day processing: 600 GEL
  • Permanent Residence Permit:

    • 30-day processing: 350 GEL
    • 20-day processing: 500 GEL

    A person who has held an investment residence permit for 5 years must apply to the SSGS before the expiration of the investment residence permit and submit information about the turnover for the 5th year after the issuance of the investment residence permit. A person who was issued an investment residence permit on the basis of real estate ownership must submit a certificate from the National Agency of Public Registry confirming ownership of the real estate or replacement property for a total of 5 years.

    Documents required for a foreigner who has lived in Georgia on the basis of a temporary residence permit for the last 10 years to obtain a permanent residence permit:

Investment Obligations

A person is obligated to annually, before the expiration of each year of the investment residence permit’s validity period, submit information from the Revenue Service about the annual turnover from business activities conducted in Georgia, which must amount to:

  • First year: Minimum $50,000 USD

A person who has an investment residence permit issued on the basis of real estate ownership is obligated to maintain ownership rights to the real estate or to a replacement property that complies with the conditions prescribed by law throughout the permit’s validity period.

Residence Card

A person is obligated to obtain a residence card within 1 month from receiving a residence permit in Georgia. The residence card confirms a foreign resident’s citizenship, identity, and place of residence on the territory of Georgia.The duration of the residence permit determines the validity period of a temporary residence card, while a permanent residence card is valid for 5 years.

To obtain a residence card, a person must submit a document confirming citizenship of another state or statelessness, a photo, and a document confirming legal residence in Georgia. The application review fee for obtaining a card depends on the processing speed: 60 GEL for 10 business days, 80 GEL for 5 business days, 100 GEL for 3 business days, 120 GEL for 2 business days, 150 GEL for same-day processing.
